So what is coaching and why do today's leaders and managers need to learn it?
Coaching is unlocking a person's potential to maximise his or her own performance. It is helping them to learn rather than teaching them. Coaching can be about:
Performance - enhancing existing behaviours and developing new ones.
Development - creating new values or sense of self.
Transformation - discovering a new direction or vision.
Coaching requires a number of competencies including: asking good questions, listening, goal-setting, giving feedback and finding the leverage point for change. |
